The UM Climate Response Club takes advantage of a collaborative leadership style that encourages responsibility and transparency among all officers. Besides the President, Vice President, and Treasurer, there are no formally outlined officer positions (e.g. Secretary or Social Media Officer). Instead, we have a flexible number of Executive Officers. All officers are granted both the privilege and responsibility of a formal say in the proceedings of the club and a seat at the table of officer meetings. Club decisions are made in a collaboratively, with each officer given a vote. Once the decision is made, the duties associated with the decision are then relegated to those officers with a particular interest in the project or who have the time available for the tasks at hand.

We utilize this model for several reasons.

It allows for greater creative freedom and flexibility in the delegation of tasks among officers.

It gives every officer an equal voice and equal stake in the activities of the club.

It allows for those who are inexperienced with the role of club leadership to be able to learn as they go and get experience with the UM system of student group governance.
