In the past few years, huge gains have been made for sustainability in Missoula and the University of Montana. Since 2018, Missoula has committed to Zero Waste by 2050, 100% Clean, Renewable Energy by 2030, and a Climate Ready Missoula Plan. Meanwhile at the University, the Sustainability Fee was upgraded from optional to mandatory this summer, supplying tens of thousands more dollars to the Kless Sustainability Fund every year. Not only that, but the University has committed to upgrade its energy infrastructure in a move that will reduce its emissions by a third - or more! Plus, the University is looking into pursuing a campus-wide bathroom composting initiative that could divert thousands of pounds of paper towels from the landfill every year.
Though dealing with climate change solutions can feel discouraging, it's important to recognize the wins when they come. In the spirit of that mindset, we are going to gather together this October 8th from 5-7 pm on the Oval in front of the DHC to celebrate the progress that has been made here at home. We will have games, more details about the successes listed above, and some naturally-packed foods like oranges, bananas, and grilled corn in the husk.
We hope you can make it for the fun!
